Does Auto Insurance Cover Your Repair?
If you are living in Whittier or La Mirada, Ca, chances are you have auto insurance. Life happens and sometimes car repairs are needed. Whether it’s regular maintenance or serious repairs you want to know what is covered by your insurance. You are paying so much for it already, so why not see if they can help you out.
Here are some things to consider when checking if your insurance provider has you covered!
Maintenance
Unless you have a fully electric car, there are quite a few things you need to do to maintain your car, most commonly oil changes, fluid replacement and filter replacements. So does your insurance cover it? Unfortunately in most cases it doesn’t. If you are paying for insurance there is most likely some section of your agreement that states that the National Association of Insurance Commissioners states that maintenance is typically not included in your insurance plans.
Not to fret though! In most cases when you recently buy a new or used car, most dealerships will offer some sort of maintenance in your package to ensure that your vehicle is running smoothly. Even if it may not be completely covered, you can at least expect some sort of discount pricing compared to going to some other mechanics.
Bumper to Bumper Damage
Collisions or accidents happen when driving occasionally, your insurance providers know that. Whether it’s with another car or some object while you are driving, your insurance provider will generally cover the repairs. The extent of the repair is dependent on your insurance provider and the plan you have with them. Some insurance companies will cover the entire repair while others only require you to pay some deductible for the repair.
The insurance provider might even go so far to provide you with a vendor that they have an agreement with to do the repair. That doesn’t mean that you have to go there though. If you go to another auto repair shop and provide an invoice for the repair, in many cases they will cover the repair so long as you still cover the deductible. It all comes down to how much they are trying to get you to pay for the deductible.
Non-Accident Repairs
This is not as commonly known, but your insurance provider will also cover Non-Accident repairs. Some of these comprehensive repairs include: Fire, Theft, Vandalism, Natural Disasters, Falling Objects or Animal Related Damage. This is not necessarily covered in all insurance policies, but depending on the plan you have with them, generally speaking you should be able to receive some sort of compensation for the damages.
Similar to the Bumper to Bumper Damage, most insurance companies will only ask that you cover a minimum deductible for the repair. You may also still choose to go to your own auto repair shop to see what kind of quote they are willing to give you. Generally if it is a less expensive repair, they may not increase your monthly rate.
Car Break Downs
This one is difficult to determine since it depends on the reason why your vehicle breaks down. In many cases though, insurance companies will help you cover the cost of the repair, but may not provide reimbursement for a rental car or even provide you with a rental vehicle while you wait for your vehicle to be repaired. If you decide to upgrade your plan with your insurance company though, you may qualify for rental reimbursement coverage, in which case, your insurance company will provide reimbursement for a rental vehicle. This type of insurance generally isn’t too pricey and most people decide to opt-out of it. If you are someone who has an old used car that may be coming towards the end of its use, this insurance upgrade may be good for you.
